Elise Mahan
May 8, 2010 to July 8, 2010
Part of our Tranquil Art program.
Much of my work explores mixed media abstraction, using various objects such as old textbooks, fried amp tubes, restored wood, decomposed instruments, and rescued windowpanes. The goal of this series is to utilize found and recycled items through layering and stratification to create sculptural paintings that explore nature and technology. This has allowed me to examine connections between language, symbolism and the environment and how they relate to one another within art and ultimately within our society. Several of my artistic influences include Joseph Cornell, Marcel Duchamp, and Eva Hesse. You can reach Elise Mahan at elisemahan@gmail.com.
