Francis RualoApril 17, 2009 to June 16, 2009Part of our Tranquil Art program. Francis Rualo—or Geoffrey to his family and friends—was born in the Philippines. Francis hails from a family of artists: painters, wood carvers, singers, mucisians, and culinary chefs. Creativity runs deep in his roots. His fascination for detail led him to the study of a bachelor of science degree in hotel and restaurant management at the University of Santo Tomas, which was established in 1611 and is the oldest university in the Philippines. A member of the student council, he did volunteer work for the Filipino-Chinese organization Scarlet as well as for the Red Cross, where he discovered both his love of helping people and his talent at organizing events. He helped organize medical missions, concerts, and movie premieres to raise funds for and awareness of both organizations. He also participated in Bernice Legaspi Art Gallery summer seminars for children, assisting famous Filipino artists. He returned to San Francisco after graduating from college. Using an SLR camera that was given by a friend, he started taking photos in his spare time. His first models were friends and family members who would be willing subjects. What started out as a hobby became a medium of self-expression. Most importantly, photography has also allowed Francis to rediscover his city and himself. He is proud to have under his belt a handful of loyal clients in the San Francisco Bay Area. He works occasionally in Los Angeles to assist in major shoots for celebrities and models such as Reichen Lehmkuhl, Lea Salonga, T.R. Knight, Joshua Clephas, Nicole Tupper, Chris Carmack, and Ryan Barry. Francis is excited to have his first one-man show. |
